This book is not a genre I typically read. But, in keeping with my motto, I #gettoknowtheauthor.So, when one of my twitter followers suggested Marcy, I was glad to take it up.
This story was fantastic!
This story is written by a Juneau author, and you can see that in the way she deals with everyday life in Alaska.
The last author who dealt with the North with such reverence, IMHO, was Robert Service.
And while the presentations are different, (he used poetry and ballads, Marcy uses a novel) both authors show a reverence
that would be hard to present if it wasn't experienced.
To me, it seemed like this story was a fun write, and her joy in writing comes out in the story. It truly is infectious.

This book was a good read. It had lots of interesting things going on that holds a reader in. I was very disappointed in how it ended though. It seemed to be very abrupt. I will have to really think about purchasing the next volumes. Overall, still a good read. And I love the setting.
So totally not what I expected! Such fun.
A lighthearted, delightfully written story about weredogs and witches in Juneau, Alaska. Yes, weird, but it works. Also filled with descriptions of Juneau that are so evocative that they make you want to visit. Definitely buying the next book!
Magic All Around is a wonderfully fun and engaging read. I read it in one night and kept turning pages long after I should have fallen asleep, but just had to know what was going to happen next. Bravo, Marcy L. Peska, for a well-written book with relatable characters and an entertaining plot.
I totally enjoyed this book, it had snark, which led to laughs, and danger, a mystery, a prophecy, wereanimals, magic, fairy , definitely kept me entertained. Looking forward to reading the next.
The first book in Marcy's Magic series is wonderful! I love that she is taking urban fantasy and giving it an Alaskan setting. The result is not as hard edged as much urban fantasy, due to the fact that Juneau Alaska is quite rural, especially around the edges. As a longtime Alaskan I appreciate Marcy's use of Alaska as an accurately framed and portrayed setting without resorting to sensationalized hyperbole as so many authors do. It is a perfect setting for the story of Vivien, who is coming to terms with the reality of magic, interesting family dynamics, oh! and dogs!!! all with the support of great friends. I love this story!
A totally enjoyable read! Right from page 1 the author captured my interest and held it through the entire book. The book was a very fun, fast read. It did seem to end a bit abruptly...however that only left me wanting more. I immediately downloaded book 2, as I couldn't wait to see what happened next with the characters I had come to love! I am presently enjoying book 2 (Magic Within) just as much as the first one. I'd love to see this series continue on. If you are looking for a light, quick read and enjoy stories about the supernatural, then I'd definitely recommend this book. I couldn't put it down!
This story drew me in from the first page. Vivian and her friends come to life almost immediately, and the way they react to what's happening around them feels very real. They made me love them. The magic involved is believable and finely captured, and the Juneau, Alaska landscape is keenly felt. I was riveted from beginning to end, and looking forward to reading the next installment. A truly enjoyable read. Highly recommended!
